Michigan archery opener is just around the corner; October 1st. There is only so much time left for scouting, hanging treestands, and finding your ‘after-work go-to spots’ that provide you with opportunities. Yesterday, my cousin Neng and I finally had time to go out and do some scouting. I had a trail cam out there to see if I could catch any bruisers cruising around some thick stuff. I finally pulled down my cam and we checked the footage. After scrolling through 70-something pictures of a 4-point and a family of deer, I finally hit gold! Well, gold for me. Finally got a nice buck on camera; but, I only got a snippet of it. It was pretty funny because when Neng and I saw the picture, we both gasped ‘Ohhh!’ at the same time. Oh times like these crack me up.
Anyway, for some reason though, the camera didn’t snap the buck at different angles, or the buck decided to just be camera shy and not show it’s face. Such frustration that I can’t exactly say how many antlers this guy has on him. Here is the first picture below:
I figured I’d catch more in the next images, or so I thought. The second and last picture of him walking away:
And that was it. WTF right?! Was this guy just running through there? These were the only two pictures I have of him, so I don’t even know if he is still there anymore. Regardless, seeing this has pushed my hunting excitement to a whole new level! It’s rare for me to see something like this on public land in Michigan; central Michigan too!
I decided to throw my camera back up to see if it comes through again. If it does, awesome, let’s pattern it. If it doesn’t, well crap, let’s go find where it is.
Let’s hope that it’s going to feel safe in the area.
